The Platinum Rule
What is desired is the king of diversity that fully respects the values and interest of all. —Sandra Harding
I believe the Golden Rule—treating others as you want to be treated—can fall short. The better approach is the Platinum Rule: treat others as THEY want to be treated. This shifts the focus to their needs, not your assumptions. You’ll have more respect when you make it about things other than yourself because not everyone wants to be treated the same way you do.
(The Golden Rule is self-centric; the Platinum Rule is other-centric.)
I think we all have empathy. We may not have enough courage to display it. —Maya Angelou

how will i know how they want to be treated if they dont have strong communication skills?
Just beautiful. Who thought the golden rule could be reconsidered. Not taking yourself as the center of the universe feels like moving beyond thinking the sun goes around the earth. They killed Copernicus for that.
