Reality is created by the mind, we can change our reality by changing our mind. —Plato
Our feelings do not come from outside events, but, from our own thinking about the events.
Here’s the formula:
Event + same old thinking = same experience
Event + new thinking = new experience
To feel different, start by thinking differently. Change begins with slowing down, noticing your thoughts, and consciously deciding to change them.
Find a system that works for you—meditation, yoga, mindfulness, even games like Tetris or puzzles, all help to stop overthinking and rumination. After we have slowed down our thoughts, we are better able to reflect and change our thinking.
In tomorrow's Spark, I'll simplify the formula:
Event - thinking = reality
If you're living in your head, you're not in reality.
See the world as it is, not as you wish it would be. ―E. Lockhart
I've tried this method while waiting for the subway. I used to be bored and frustrated, but now I take the time as an opportunity to observe people and take notes for potential story ideas.
